The Great American Sitcom Tournament 2016

After the fun, success and debate invoking anger of our previous 'Great British Sitcom Tournament' we thought we better do an American version, so that's exactly what we're doing!

We started in March when we held the Qualifiers to determine the final 32 Sitcoms, so apologies if your favourites aren't included, they didn't get the early votes.

Once the 32 were decided, we held a (extremely professional) draw, with ping pong balls drawn at random and zero corruption...

Prior to the beginning of the Great American Sitcom Tournament a draw took place to select the group games of the tournament The draw was filmed in one shot, completely randomly with 2 impartial witnesses to ensure no bribes or corruption took place.

The competition takes the form of the football World Cup with 8 groups of 4 (we seeded the top 8, in our opinion, so they avoided each other in the group stages). Each show in a group plays each other once, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. The top 2 shows of each group will progress to the knockout stages.

To play the 'matches' we need your help. We are using the new twitter 'poll' feature to decide the winner of each match based on your votes, each match lasts 24 hours so there will be plenty of time to cast your vote.

Make sure you are following @posteritty over on twitter to be a part of the tournament as it happens, using #GAST2016 should help you find the matches.

We'll update the results table on a regular/daily basis and pin it to our twitter feed so you can check in on how your favourite sitcom is doing throughout the tournament.

The tournament kicks off on February 4th 2016 and the final will take place on 28th Feb. We hope you can take part and help determine the best American Sitcom out there!

The Great British Sitcom Tournament 2016

As we're big fans of sitcoms, football tournaments, minimalist design and spreadsheets we've been working on a way to combine all 4 of these elements for a while and it's finally time to launch 'The Great British Sitcom Tournament 2016'!

Great British Sitcom Tournament

We were originally going to have a Euro style 16 team competition, but it quickly became apparent that this wouldn't cut it, as after just an hour's thinking, we already had 68 sitcoms we wanted to include! So at the bare minimum it would have to be a World Cup 32 team/show event.

Obviously taste in humour is massively subjective so we realise that our final 32 choices may trigger debate (It took around 6 hours of discussion littered with colourful language to reach this point and there are still several we are not unanimous on) Hopefully there are at least a few of your favourites in there for you to back and from now on it's over to you, the voting public to decide!

Pomp, Pageantry, Posters and Pride

A night at The Beating Retreat 2015

We have just returned from a fantastic trip to London, where we were treated to an evening of ceremonial pomp and a display of the very definition of Military Precision, at The Beating Retreat 2015 event at Horse Guards Parade.

We were hugely honoured to have been asked to design the posters for the 2014 ceremonial events for The Household Division, and once again this year:

The night began with a champagne reception, courtesy of the Major General commanding The Household Division, where we were treated to an exclusive look at many of the original surviving artefacts from the Battle of Waterloo:

We were then taken across the road to Horse Guards Parade, handed a familiar looking programme :)

and walked through the gates adorned with the posters we had created earlier in the year, a surreal moment...

What followed was 2 hours of a truly spectacular display featuring the Household Guards, Household Cavalry, Scottish Pipers and a canon booming re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo, all expertly narrated.

The skill, talent and precision of each and every soldier, musician, dancer, choreographer, lighting technician, pyrotechnic worker (basically everyone involved on the performance!) was immaculate and a true testament to the hours of hard work that goes in to the event.

It's hard not to be moved by the playing of the last post, or the vision and sounds of the lone piper playing on the cenotaph.

Another poignant part of the evening was the playing of the 'waterloo bugle' one that was discovered on the battlefield and played publicly for the first time. It was an absolutely unforgettable evening.

To be able to have played even the smallest of parts to help promote these incredible events is an absolute privilege and one that we are incredibly thankful for.

If you have not been to an event involving The Household Division, we recommend that you make sure you do at the next opportunity!
